So, not even two weeks ago I announced that I was starting a month-long vacation away from news blogs, news sites and newspapers. Today I decided to check back and find out how long it’d been, thinking it was more like 3 weeks. Uh, no. Apparently 12 days without news is enough to produce withdrawal symptoms in Uncle Vinny.
I’m reading more, which is good, but I also wish I knew what was going on. In a way, it’s a reminder that we never know what’s going on. Yes, this is stinkin’ thinkin’, but the contrast between reading blogs and news sites (with a daily/hourly perspective on events) and reading a book (with a decades-long perspective) is stunning, and it makes me wary of returning to the blog world.
I’m staying on the wagon for now, and contemplating a similar hiatus from WoW. I sort of figured that I would find other things to do in all the free time I had once I stopped following every stupid little campaign/economic issue, but mostly I’m finding that I’m kind of bored. I really like reading the news, and I also have a lot of fun in WoW. Yeah, they are both addictions… but are they that bad, really? “Um, compared to, say, opium? Oxycodone?” (Hush, you!) All I mean to say is that if I stopped playing WoW and reading the news, I’d be pretty goddamn bored. I can do a certain amount of reading, but after a few hours, I need to do something more interactive. “Why don’t you go outside and get some sunshine?” (Hush, you!)
Sorry, ducklings! This post bored me, too. I’ll try to say something interesting someday, please don’t unsubscribe!
