I’m Uncle Vinny, this is my blog. I live in Capitol Hill, Seattle. I grew up in Eugene, Oregon, and have also lived in Colorado. I’ve travelled to Canada, the UK, Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Japan, China, 25 of the 50 United States and… imaginary places. As of September 2008 I’ve lived in Seattle for 10 years, so I feel semi-native. I am single, and available for blind or semi-blind dates — so you should send me a mail if you think I’m The One, or if you think your hairdresser would totally dig me.

My interests are many, varied and changeable. Common themes: politics, cats, cooking, music, pre-1950’s literature, live theater, documentaries, sculpture, nonfiction books, slow dancing, the interface between chemistry and physics, the perennial philosophy, economic history, motorcycles and World of Warcraft, not necessarily in that order.

I’m a semi-anonymous blogger. My friends read the blog sometimes, and there’s a ton of info about me here, but I don’t actually use my name. I like it that if you Google “Uncle Vinny” you end up here, but if you Google my actual name (Amon “Zephaniah” McRecondite, if you must know) you don’t get anywhere close. If you want to contact the actual me, feel free! My gmail.com email address isn’t too hard to guess.

My thanks to Eitan for suggesting that I start a blog. Good idea, because it’s so hard to find well-educated middle-upper-class white guys in the blogosphere. I post semi-regularly; if you want to be informed when I post something, I heartily recommend an RSS-reader such as Google Reader, that way you won’t miss any of my precious nectar.

    Hi there!

I’m from Singapore and would be visited Japan in December. I have chanced upon your pictures on flickr. Like you, I was thinking of visiting Osenkaku at Takaragawa. But having seen your picture of the “horrible bathroom”, I have my misgivings.
    In a nutshell,
Was the bathroom in your pic really the one in Osenkaku?
which would you recommend: Chojukan or Osenkaku?

You’d helping me heaps in my planning if you would kindly reply.

    Thanks in advance!
(Sorry I had to use your tag board this way =()

    Hi Ginko!

Yes, that really was the bathroom. Overall, it’s a VERY easy choice… go to Chojukan! It was so much more relaxing, the food was exquisite, the people were charming and the location was unbelievable. Hoshi Onsen was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan, and Osenakaku (Takaragawa) was a disappointment.

    Have fun!

I don’t get any hits for Amon “Zephaniah” McRecondite.

Huh, that’s odd. I wonder why Google isn’t scanning this page…?

Did you know that also John (one of the owners of tidbit bistro, Nic from Italy is the other owner) is from Eugene, OR, has traveled extensively through Europe and US, and has lived in Seattle for the past ten years?
